Hyundai will debut the new Veloster Alpine sports coupe concept, developed by ARK Performance, at the 2012 SEMA show. The vehicle offers finely tailored interior using materials, colors and design themes fitting an extreme winter sports lifestyle.

The active sports theme on the vehicle’s exterior carries a number of custom accessories appealing to mountain sports enthusiasts. The Veloster Alpine concept expands on original Veloster functional design strengths, including the hidden third door and wide-opening rear hatch with a focused interior theme.

Ted Lee, owner of ARK performance said that the Veloster Alpine concept reflects the diverse lifestyle versatility we envisioned in the original Veloster concept. “This extreme sports coupe concept will appeal to winter sports enthusiasts who love to carve the snow as much as a twisty canyon road,” he said.

When it comes to the powertrain, the 1.6-liter, direct-injected Veloster engine receives engine modifications, including an ARK Performance DTS exhaust system, K&N intake System, Nitrous Express Proton Kit, ARK Oil Cooler, and BTRcc custom engine bay parts and tuning. The new engine boasts 232 hp and 240 lb.-ft. of torque from only 1.6-liters of displacement.

In the exteriors, the Veloster concept vehicle features custom pearl white paint by Beyond Coachworks, custom soft-touch interior materials by Hexis, 180 customs headlights and taillights, seibon carbon hood and deck lid and NRG front and rear tow hooks. The vehicle also comes with 2013 ARK/Adro body kit including bumpers, side skirts, rear wing and fenders.

Along with this the automaker also offers exterior accessories including snowboards, bindings and boots for the sports enthusiasts.

When Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Tire-rotation2-300x189

Ever looked at the bottom of your shoes and noticed that one area of the sole is more worn than another? The way you walk causes a wear pattern to occur as you put more weight on certain areas of your feet. The same thing happens with your car. Just imagine your tires are the shoe soles of the car. The act of driving throws the auto's weight around, leaving distinctive erosion patterns on the tires. In order to combat the inevitable uneven wear, you have to rotate your tires to different locations on your vehicle.
What Causes Wear?
Tire wear can become uneven for a number of reasons. A car's weight dispersion can be a factor, especially if you have a front-wheel drive vehicle. Not only do the tires on these have to endure the steering, braking and accidental bruises from parking but also carry the entire weight of both the engine and the front axle.

"There are a lot of things that can wear out tires," says Joel Burrows, Precision Tune Auto Care's Car Doc. "Incorrect tire pressure and uneven alignment can result in tire wear. Also, because of the weight distribution in the car, the front tires can wear out twice as fast as the rear ones."

Your tires will give you a little warning that the tread is uneven. Considering that there shouldn't be noise emanating from your tires, listen for a humming sound coming from them on smooth roads. That is a good indication it may be time for a rotation.  Burrows advises, "But don't wait until you see uneven wear in your tires.  Once abnormal tire wear occurs it is very difficult to correct even through rotation, although rotating can certainly help some".

Manufacturers recommend you rotate your tires every 6,000 to 8,000 miles, convenient timing to perform the service roughly at every other oil change, depending on when you change it.

If you drive your car pretty hard, or have a four-wheel drive vehicle, you may want to rotate your tires a little more often than that. In these cases, Burrows suggests having your tires rotated at 5,000 miles.

Why Do It?
At this point, you may be wondering why you even need to be spending this much time on tire rotation. Well, for one thing, it's safer.

Burrows agrees, saying, "Safety is definitely an issue if you don't rotate your tires. If you have balder tires on the front, you are at risk of losing control of the steering and getting into an accident."

By rotating your tires, your vehicle's braking will be more even, thus more effective; and the handling will be more balanced. Things you'll notice as soon as those tires get moved around. Evenly worn tires also
equate to a smoother ride, with increased traction and better gas mileage.

With all your tires wearing down at the same rate, you'll be able to purchase a new set of four when the time comes instead of going in for the front tires, followed by another visit to buy new rear tires. Essentially, it makes the buying process a less frequent affair. Combine that with the result of a more efficient ride and tire rotation should sit permanently on your car maintenance checklist, no matter how dull it can be to contemplate.

The Velocity concept proudly debuts at the 2012 SEMA show under the Hyundai banner. Velocity represents a joint effort between the Design and Engineering divisions of Hyundai America Technical Center in Irvine, California.

The Velocity concept expands on all of the original Veloster concept strengths in an aggressive, no-holds-barred factory-racer design language.
