Does Your Hyundai Have a Nickname?

Getting a new vehicle is like bringing home a new family member. You wash it, you feed it and you probably named it. It may be silly to think about considering a car wouldn't come to you if you called it, but naming your baby is just part of owning a car.

Whether it's official, or just an occasional nickname, what do you call your car? Tell us in the comments below.

Giving Your Kids a Boost

Not sure if your child still needs a booster seat? Ask yourself these questions:

Does your child sit all the way against the seat?

Do your child's knees comfortably bend over the edge of the seat?

Does the seat belt cross your child's shoulder between the arm and the neck?

Does the lap belt lay low, touching your child's thighs?

Does your child stay seated like this for the duration of the car trip?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, your child needs a booster seat. Not only will your child be protected in the event of a crash, your child will be more comfortable as well. Remember: Your child is doubly safe sitting in the back seat.

Stay Healthy This Summer

We believe a healthy summer is a happy summer, but with vacations and BBQs keeping us busy, we sometimes forget to stay on top of our own health. Here are a few reminders to stave off sickness for the rest of the summer:

Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and eat fruit with high-water content such as watermelon, grapes and cucumbers.

Stay covered. Wear protective clothing outdoors such as a hat, sunglasses and sheer cover-ups. Sunscreen should also be re-applied often.

Stay fit. Exercise at least 30 minutes every morning during the coolest part of the day. Work in some good cardio to keep you and your heart healthy.

Stay relaxed. Planning activities and staying flexible in your routine can be stressful. Set aside time each day for yourself so you can catch up on your reading, take a nap or go for a leisurely stroll.

Summer Maintenance Tip!

Check hoses for cracks, leaks and loose connections. Hoses should be firm, never soft and malleable. Hoses suffer from a slow deterioration process called electrochemical degradation (ECD) that eats away at rubber hose material from the inside.

Summer Reminder: Check Those Belts and Hoses!

Summer is finally upon us and it can be quite hard on your car, especially under the hood. As such, it is crucial to keep your car cooled down as much as possible. Be sure to check the hoses in your car, especially those that transfer coolant as needed, as normal use can create leaks near clamps. Also, make sure to inspect the many belts under the hood as hot, dry weather can create cracks that can lead to belts snapping. Be sure to come in and visit us for any service work you may need done as you prepare your car for Summer!

These Traffic Laws are Completely Real

Looking for a fun fact to impress all of your friends? Feel free to take any of these facts and impress everyone at the next get together!

  • In Hilton Head, South Carolina having trash in your car is illegal. Hide the fast food!
  • Just in case you were going to try, it is absolutely illegal for Alabama residents to drive blindfolded.
  • Have road rage? In Rockville, Maryland it is illegal to use profanity while in a moving vehicle, so think the words, don’t say them
  • Glendale, California has outlawed jumping from a moving vehicle at 65 miles per hour. You will have to practice your stunts elsewhere.
  • In Mississippi your horse may not be held within 50 feet of a roadway. Giddy up!
  • Have you changed clothes in your Hyundai while going from one event to the other? You would have broken the law in Rehoboth, Delaware because that is illegal.
  • Tennessee says that you can shoot any game from a moving vehicle, except whales. How often do you see whales in Tennesse?
  • Red cars have been banned from driving down Lake Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Drive that red car elsewhere!
  • Thinking of putting Fluffy on the roof of your car before your trip? It is illegal to strap your pet to the roof of your car in Anchorage, Alaska.

Whats that smell?

So you are driving along and all the sudden you smell something out of the ordinary. You didn’t leave any food in the car and its not you so…. It must be the car! Here is our guide to decoding those smells that come from your vehicle.

IF IT SMELLS LIKE...
IT COULD MEAN...
BURNING CARPET
The drive belts could be slipping or it could indicate misplaced loose hoses rubbing against rotating accessory drive pulleys.
ROTTEN EGGS
This is likely a problem with your catalytic converter, either having to
do with the transfer of sulfur dioxide or indicating a poorly running
engine.  Have it checked out; this could cause your vehicle to overheat.
SWEET SYRUP
Leaking engine coolant.  DO NOT open the radiator cap while it's hot.
GASOLINE
Any smell of fuel can mean a fire hazard--give this smell immediate
attention.  If it smells like gasoline, that's likely (but not always)
what's leaking.
BURNING RUBBER
This might indicate a problem with your brakes.  You should have your vehicle checked out immediately.

Here’s why the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe is so exciting

Positive reviews, pricing, and long-term ownership costs.  The big three.  The trifecta.  What do these three factors have in common?  Every car brand strives to produce a vehicle that masters each one.   And with the SUV market growing every year, there’s a lot of cut-throat competition!  But only the 2014 Santa Fe stands out as the SUV that perfects it all with this much style.

The 2014 Santa Fe is dramatically redesigned from its previous models, and comes with all the bells and whistles.  It handles like a dream, slicing through curvy roads like butter.  Did we mention it’s roomy enough to fit everyone comfortably, turbocharged, AND boasts an amazing MPG for its class?

Why are you still sitting there?  Come see us for a test drive today.

New grad needing a new car? Make sure you do these 3 things.

Establish a Budget

When coming up with a budget for your car, consider all your monthly costs including rent, bills and student loans. This will help you stay within the limits of what you can afford so you don’t get in over your head with payments. Setting realistic goals will help you manage other financial areas, too.

Take your Time

Don’t rush the process. Look at as many cars as you want and take notes (you should be a pro by now!) so you can remember all the important facts. Car and Driver advises you not to purchase your car on the first visit. Take at least a night to think about your decision. You’ll be driving this new car for several years – you should be comfortable and happy with your decision.

Take a Test Drive

During your test drive, be sure to test the brakes and lights while driving on both slow roads and busy freeways. Don’t forget to check out the passenger seats. The more time you spend with a car during a test drive, the more accurate your evaluation will be.
